The Norwegian ministry for education in Norway has appointed a committee in October 2008 to conduct a comprehensive review of education for minority language in kindergartens, school and higher education, and to improve conditions and ensure that:
- day care services for language minorities provide the best possible basis for the development and further learning, - language minority children, adolescents and adults in basic education are provided an equal education, the best possible learning outcomes and learning environment, - language minorities acquire good basic skills and that - provide a good basis for the language minorities to participate in employment and/or higher education.
It seems rather peculiar that the report in its 236 pages does not mention even once morsmal.org which is actually Norway's first and largest resource for language minorities.
Main points from the committee part proposition follows below:
- Good and relevant expertise in all aspects at all levels of education sector are critical variables in order to ensure a good and stable education for various groups of language minorities. - There should be invested further efforts actively to increase the language minority children's participation in kindergarten. - Special tuition, language training and bilingual vocational training are instruments that should be used more often and more varied. - Rights of children of asylum seekers and unaccompanied minor asylum seekers must be considered more seriously.
When it comes to language and language teaching resources, the committee has chosen to focus on resources in Sweden and a "link collection" website in Norway that is in conflict when it comes to international rules and laws on copyrights and domain registration.
