Children's Minister Audun Lysbakken was grilled by the UN Children's Committee in Geneva on the proposal on asylum children's pelvic examinations.
The Norwegian Children's Minister Audun Lysbakken had to defend and explain yesterday the proposal to clinically examine asylum children's genitals. UN Children's Committee believes that this is a very controversial, stressful and drastic method. Lysbakken explained that the Immigration Directorate wish to reveal those asylum seekers who are lying about their age and that the government has not adopted these physical examinations yet.
Lysbakken was also asked how Norway protects the child's best interests in cases where parents are deported from Norway.
A Committee Member M. Maura Perez asked the minister about how Norway secure mother tongue education for language minority children.
Lysbakken concluded the hearings on the airport in Geneva yesterday with that he was "Pleased with the day" and that he "had many useful inputs".
