Easter holiday is a worldwide tradition involving many customs that people believe to be Christian, but is it really Christian?
Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. In many languages, the words for "Easter" and "Passover" (Pesach in Hebrew) are etymologically related or homonymous.
Easter and Christmas are the most Christian holidays and are celebrated to commemorate Jesus Christ's suffering, death and resurrection.
While the English word "Easter" relates to "Eostre" (Ostara), a Teutonic (German) goddess of the rising light of day and spring, the word "Easter" in most languages is originated of the Jewish holiday Passover (Pesach). Jews have celebrated Passover longer than Christians. They celebrated the exodus from bondage in Egypt.
The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox which is falling on the same date as the Jewish Passover.
