Norway will send a delegation composed of Sami representatives and scientists to Israel on a study tour to learn about the Israeli success of native language instruction.
The delegation is on a project run by the County of Nordland to strengthen Sami language education. Lavangen municipality is responsible for the practical development while the University of Nordland is responsible for the technical guidance. Head of Information Hildegunn Hansen at Israel's embassy to accompany the group.
A delegation Sami travel in February to Israel to learn about how the Israelis have revived Hebrew language training and done remarkably effective.
The Sami community is struggling to take back the language, says Lars Roar Halonen told the newspaper the day. He is working on language education for children in Lavangen municipality in southern Troms.
While Sami is strong in areas of Finnmark, where the Sami are a majority, the situation is far more challenging in areas of Troms and Nordland, where the Sami are a minority.
