From 1 August, the new legislative changes in the Education Act will take effect on the organization of the training offer for minority language students.
According to the new provisions, the municipalities may organize special training services for newly arrived pupils in their own groups, classes or schools for up to two years. Download the guide from the education directorate here at morsmal.org
All municipalities and county municipalities must be prepared to receive newcomers, whether they come because of work immigration, family reunification, refugees or asylum seekers, it is stated in a message from the Directorate of Education.
It is now legalized that it is possible to organize introductory offerings for newly arrived students in their own groups, classes or schools, but the law still contains restrictions on how this can be solved. The new regulations also make it possible to deviate from the academic and time allocation and curricula for subjects for newly arrived students who participate in an introductory offer.
The offer will take care of individual needs and rights for the individual student, and the organization and content of the training must ensure inclusion and a good learning environment. The legislative amendments will enter into force on 1 August 2012.
The Directorate of Education has prepared a guide on legislative changes aimed at school owners and school leaders in municipalities and county municipalities with newly arrived minority language students.
